One year out from the hype of SYTYCD, tell us how the show has impacted your life?
SYTYCD has been such a wonderful promotion for dance in general. Just to have strangers tell you how much they love the show and how their whole family is glued to the TV every Sunday night, I just find that so awesome for dance in Australia! As for me, I just love being busy with both of my dance studios and am really excited to continue growing my business. SYTYCD has definitely helped the profile of my business.
Why do you think it is so important for a dancer to also achieve a certificate in fitness alongside full-time dance training?
To have an educated view on fitness, nutrition and general health is essential for dancers to have a successful and long career. The certificate III & IV in fitness covers so much information on all of these areas, it teaches you that a career in dance is like being a professional athlete, and it gives you all the educated information to be the best coach of your own career!
Can you tell us about the ‘Dedicated to In-house Job placement Agency’?
I have an agency called Chase Creations, which provides work and auditions solely for my full time students. I have one on one meetings throughout the year with each student and discuss their desired career. I just love seeing my students get contracts, gigs and fulfilling their dreams.
All my 2009 full time students have just finished a show supporting Jessica Mouboy which was such a great experience for them all!
What do you hope to instill in every one of your students?
I come from an intense, high-level gymnastic background and I have learnt to work hard and be passionate about what I do. This is what I love to see in my students. This course is heaps of fun but like any full time course it requires commitment and dedication to bettering yourself. This is the attitude that I love to see in my students, and of course the attitude that I know makes you succeed in our industry.
