As you step onto the competition floor the rest of the world stops. Your heart skips a beat; you can actually feel the vibration from the roar of the crowd. The music is set. The judges are ready. The room burns with anticipation. In this moment, it’s just you and the team, and as the adrenaline pours over your moment, you realise this is no ordinary competition. This is all your practice, all your work, all your dreams. It’s about the journey and everything you did to get here. It’s All Star Cheer & Dance.

Every competition you do is a positive step for your squad to getting closer to your goals. You ask yourself:Do we have the right choreographyIs our music good enoughAre we competing in the right levelHave we trained hard enoughDo we have enough tumblingAre our stunts and transitions flashy enoughWill we stick our stuntsAre we really ready
It is not always about winning and coming home with the trophies, it is about creating a life-time of memories. We want to succeed but we also want to learn, grow and understand that even if we don’t win we are still winners! Winning can be a great motivator, however good sportsmanship (cheering each other) and leadership are so much more important.
“It's so much harder than a lot of people think,” said Chantelle Jurinovic, who cheers with Cheer Victoria Outlaws. “We have to be strong enough to throw people into the air, then go right back into a routine full of tumbling and dancing, all while coordinating with the rest of the team. I think all those components make it harder than any other sport but I love the thrill of working hard with the rest of my team to get make what is very hard look easy.”
So if you have never been to an All Star cheerleading competition before you are in for a treat as you will see dedicated athletes who have trained as hard as any other and are the best in combining tumbling skills and dance choreography into 2 ½ minutes of excitement - just remember to practice the cheerleader’s unofficial code of ethics; 'cheer unto others as you wish to be cheered.
And when you are at your wits end, heading to the last practice floor, stressed to the max, you ask yourself, “Why are we doing this?” Because we love it!
