“We love the dancer’s hard work ethic, dedication and graciousness, in such a beautiful work environment. It inspires us to also do our best work for them when we see the hard work and years of dedication they have put in.”
Brett Wallace from Blustone Productions
What happens during the consultation process for audition videos? Brett: Students, teachers or parents enquire via email, sms or mobile to discuss a suitable date to book an audition with us.
We discuss how many students are required to be filmed and offer a discount if more than one student is filmed. From our experience we recommend how many hours should be allocated for optimal student/s performance, so as not to exhaust them physically and mentally, this time varies depending on the number of students. Students book the studio space and we help with recommendations on video friendly spaces.
Detailed forms are filled out on the day. An internet draft is sent for approval, changes can be made at this time before the final HD download or DVDs are handed over.
“Their passion and enthusiasm towards their craft is constantly translated into their performances and in turn captured in their concert recordings. It gives us something exciting and new to record and experience ourselves.” Geoff Costello from Costello Video
Is watching a dress rehearsal part of the process? Why/why not? Geoff: Having the opportunity to watch a dress rehearsal before any performance would greatly help the video production process. Not only do we get to see the performance and note any key moments in show, it also allows us to make any technical suggestions to enhance the end product i.e. slight tweaks on lighting looks to ensure the content looks best for recording. Unfortunately at times it isn’t financially viable to provide staff to be at rehearsals, and in turn this means the client has to pick up the cost. Alternatively, we accept blocking sheets from schools prior to their show. These highlight keys moments in certain items that need to be captured. This is a fantastic step towards creating a great video production.

Videos are our passion
Our family business has been established for over 30 years and was born out of an enduring passion for filmmaking. We have since worked hard to build an impeccable reputation as one of Australia’s leading production companies.
The videos we produce are much more than a single shot from a camera sat on a tripod, or a man wandering around with a movie camera.
We approach each and every project with the devotion of real filmmakers to capture your event, occasion or project with professional style. Your memories deserve no less.
With a job as important as preserving some of the most precious moments of our clients’ lives, we always ensure we are at the cutting edge of technological advances, in what is already a fast-moving industry. To that end, we use only the latest cameras, equipment, and editing facilities.
With extensive experience, skilled operators and most importantly, the passion and vision, you can be sure that your memories are in safe hands with Costello Video. And, as regular proud winners of the Australian Video Producers Association Awards, we are confident you’ll love our work too!
“I am constantly amazed by the physical ability of today’s dancers and the shapes and movements they can create with their bodies. I enjoy the challenge of capturing images that show a dancer’s talent in their best light.” Aaron Couch from DANCEvision.tv
Any tips to prevent customers losing their files from USBs and digital downloads? Aaron: It is important to use the safe eject method when removing a USB from your computer, this ensures the computer stops using the USB before you remove it, preventing the files from becoming corrupted. Of course the best method to protect your files is to make a secondary backup of them either on your computer or an external hard drive.
If you receive your files via digital download you should save them to your computer as soon as possible as most download links will have an expiry date.
Whilst we always keep an archive of our customers’ orders and are happy to provide access in any of the abovementioned events, it can cause some inconvenience and may incur additional costs.

“I have worked with dancers since 1998, and one of the things I love is how each year they grow and develop their skills. On top of that I have seen this amazing passion that they exude.” – David Mezey from In The Spotlight Productions
How do you ensure fabulous results for concert videos? David: To get the best DVD possible it’s important to:
– Confirm the venue can get an even white wash of light over the whole stage.
– Make sure the venue can supply an audio feed for the videographer.
– If possible, add tap microphones to the stage to hear the tap clearly.
– Try to use a white backdrop, not a black background, on stage. The white background can then be lit according to the mood of the item.
– Ensure the location for the cameras allows for filming over the top of the audience’s heads.
– The wide camera should be dead centre with the stage.
– Make sure you communicate any requirements clearly to the Camera Crew and Editor.
