Sally Richardson is proud to present the world premiere of standing bird, a dynamic dance/film/theatre collaboration between West Australia’s leading independent artists as part of The Blue Room Summer Nights in FRINGE WORLD.

In a bravura solo performance by Jacqui Claus, one of the State’s most exciting young dancers, standing bird spirals the audience into an experience of submersion, dislocation, isolation and transformation.

This is a personal odyssey. Washed up on an unknown shore, a lone woman struggles to both survive and retain her sense of identity. Marooned and pitched into unfamiliar and unmapped terrain, standing bird explores a woman's encounter with the Australian landscape.

Creator Sally Richardson said "This is not a heroic story about one woman. It is a fractured journey reflecting the lives of many whose stories are not necessarily written into the history books. We may not know her name, but her story reverberates, adding to our understanding of what it means to be Australian by luck or by fate"

standing bird is a collaboration between Sally Richardson, Danielle Micich, Ashley de Prazer and Jacqui Claus with contributions from Paea Leach and Shona Erksine, and sound by Kingsley Reeve and Kylie Morrison.

Producer Fiona de Garis said "standing bird represents Sally Richardson and her collaborators’ continuing creation of original works that investigate and incorporate interplay of forms, styles and genres, and an ongoing exploration and interest in telling uniquely Australian stories in a contemporary context."
