The Australian Dance Festival,

Where ANYONE Can Learn, Perform & Party With Australia’s Best Choreographers!

Sydney, 5th March 2009:  The Australian Dance Festival (12th – 14th June 2009) is an exciting new event which offers aspiring dancers the chance to learn, perform and party with choreographers from “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing With the Stars”.  The Festival’s innovative format has attracted the support of Australia’s top choreographers and also Jason Coleman (Head Judge of SYTYCD).  Coleman is a patron of the event and has lent his celebrity to support the event because of its goal to raise funds and attract volunteers for the “Merrymakers”.

Starting this month (March 2009), dancers around Australia can sign up to do 20 hours of choreography class with the likes of: Nacho Pop, Marko Panzic, Travers Ross, Tiana Joubert, Leanne Bampton, Farah Shah and Fabio Robles who have all choreographed for Channel Ten’s top rating reality TV show “So You Think You Can Dance”.

“We wanted to create opportunities for dancers to learn from the very best and to improve the quality of dancing in Australia.  The concept of our choreography courses was inspired by all the people who auditioned for “So You Think You Can Dance”.  We wanted to give them the opportunity to train with the same choreographers who would be putting them through the paces during the show’s audition process and give them the confidence and skills to re-audition for the show.” says Angela Lau, one of the Festival’s co-founders.

Each choreographer can teach around 40 people, and they will choose the best 20 to represent them on stage at the Australian Dance Festival (June 12th – 14th) at the State Sports Centre.  Regardless of whether you are chosen to perform, every participant will still receive 20 hours of class, and full access to the Australian Dance Festival which includes:

§         2 days of workshops taught by Australia’s best dance teachers, over all styles of dance

§         5 different sets of shows,

§         3 nights of parties, and also

§         An expo of dance retailers, services and schools.

The cost of participating is $420 (with the choreography course before the Festival), or $275 to attend just the Festival.
