High Performance Dance Program
The High Performance Dance Program is endorsed by the Department of Education and Training as a Program of Excellence. Students living outside of the school catchment area may be eligible for enrolment upon meeting the eligibility criteria for this program. See the enrolment page for information on this application process.
The High Performance Dance Program is an excellence program that offers a variety of curricular and extracurricular opportunities for dance enthusiasts and gifted students in dance.
Junior High Performance Dance Program
Year 7 and 8 students are able to select High Performance Dance as a subject. This is an inclusive course where students are streamed into classes based on experience level. High Performance Dance has a strong practical and performance focus and is embedded with a dance literacy program.
Students in years 7, 8 and 9 are able to perform as part of our Junior High Performance Dance Team at local competitions and Arts events. This is an extracurricular group run on Wednesday afternoons. Participation in the team is by audition.
Senior High Performance Dance Program
The Senior High Performance Program has a strong industry focus, providing students with access to high quality training and certificate qualifications in dance. Ipswich SHS is currently the only school in the Metropolitan Region to offer both CUA10113 Certificate I in Dance (year 10) and CUA20113 Certificate II in Dance (years 11 and 12). Students enrolled in our certificate program make up our Senior High Performance Dance Team who compete and perform regularly in a range of dance events across South East Queensland.
