A beguiling feast for the senses! Ballet Preljocajs’ performance of masterful contemporary choreographer, Angelin Preljocajs’ reimagining of Swan Lake, was pure magic!

Invited back to perform for QPACS’ 40th Anniversary, after a ten year absence, Brisbane audiences have been treated to a visually striking spectacle with it’s use of video projections and creative lighting, exceptional dancers and the inspired choreography of Angelin Preljocaj.

Angelin departs from the traditional ballet but still honouring the classic structure, offering a contemporary take on the beloved tale.

While adhering to much of the original score, intervals of modern tempos and beats, seamlessly intertwine to create a modern, thought- provoking atmosphere, exploring themes of environmental destruction and corporate greed.

The performance runs smoothly and effectively with a strong narrative, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The strength and technical precision of the company is mesmerising with a mix of very strong, grounded contemporary choreography combined with moments of quirky and clever inserts, which are unexpected but truly genius! These talented dancers work extremely hard.

Antoine Dubois as Siegfried is superb. His fluid style and athleticism are bound with his raw emotion and angst. The role of Odette/Odile was performed beautifully by Thea Martin. She navigates the dual role effortlessly, with boundless energy and precise technique, while delivering a very nuanced performance.

Ballet Preljocaj may be a small company but mentored and provided with such incredible choreography and opportunities by their founder Angelin, they are a true gem!
