Expressions Dance Company (EDC) is one of Queensland’s leading contemporary dance companies, based in Brisbane, Australia.

Since 1984, EDC has created more than 170 works by more than 75 renowned national and international choreographers, while providing sustainable employment for more than 70 dancers throughout its history. In addition to performing at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and other Brisbane venues such as The Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts and Brisbane Powerhouse, the company has enjoyed 22 international tours to 17 countries and 23 major Australian tours, including into regional Queensland.

EDC’s Artistic Director is renowned Australian dancer, dance maker and curator Amy Hollingsworth (appointed 2019). Previous Artistic Directors are Maggie Sietsma (1984-2008) and Natalie Weir (2009-2018).

With the talent of an extraordinary ensemble of 6 dancers, the company has achieved significant recognition through national awards and nominations, including 10 Helpmann Award and 10 Australian Dance Award nominations. Acclaimed productions include where the heart is (2010), R&J (2011), Carmen Sweet (2013), When Time Stops (2013), The Red Shoes (2014), 7 Deadly Sins (2015), The Host (2015) and Behind Closed Doors (2017).

Recently, EDC’s commitment to cultural collaboration has been articulated through its Chinese Australian Dance Exchange Project, a groundbreaking partnership with China’s leading contemporary dance companies Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Beijing LTDX and City Contemporary Dance Company (Hong Kong). EDC has also collaborated with Singapore Dance Theatre, Switzerland based Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble, Queensland Ballet, Brisbane Festival, Opera Australia, Opera Queensland, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Camerata, Topology, Trichotomy and Southern Cross Soloists.
